Some fall trends I just can't get into

images from style.com and nordstrom

1. Leggings.
These are a much-discussed item in the blog world right now, but even if they weren't, I would have addressed 'em. A lot of sites are asking the question, "Are leggings pants?" Well of course they're pants. Underpants. Now if you are wearing a dress or a tunic or even a shirt long enough to cover your bum, I'm fine with it. But when your butt is exposed... so is your, er, front, if you get my drift. And there are just waaaaaay to many things that can go wrong there. If the possibility of showing too many facets of yourself isn't scary enough to keep you away from leggings worn as straight up pants, all you need to do is google Lindsey Lohan these days and you will have 9,000 more reasons to say no.

2. The "strong" shoulder, aka: shoulder pads.
Now this may be one of those things that grows on me cause honestly, it took me a while to come around to skinny jeans, but... I doubt it. When I see those pointy shoulders jutting out, nothing pretty or feminine comes to mind. Nor does an appealing masculine touch. It's lose-lose for me.

3. Harem pants.
Call me old-fashioned, but I like my pants to have some structure, you know, a zipper, belt loops maybe, or at the least a button or a snap. I don't think the silhouette of harem pants is flattering to women at all, I honestly don't get it. They looked ridic on MC Hammer, and they will look ridic on you as well.

4. The bodysuit.
I don't even think it's necessary to go into detail on this one. Going to the restroom as a female has enough steps as it is, don't make it more complicated. Plus there are few, FEW, outfits that look good with your shirt tucked in so tightly that there is zero slack.

On a more positive note, some fall trends that I do like:

1. Schoolboy details.
Yes, that is a real schoolboy. Every fall I get into tweeds and herringbones and little boy blazers, so this one is really no surprise.

2. Monochromatic looks with tights.
I love the look of tights matching your skirt and then a different colored shoe and I also love the opposite- a colored skirt and then tights that are the same color as the shoe (that is a great way to make legs look longer, too.) And lastly, I even like the look in the picture above where EVERYTHING is the same color- yes! Just as long as that "color" isn't camo, you're good.

3. Hosiery, hosiery, hosiery!
I like the short little tight-esque socks with heels, I like em with oxfords, I just like em. The best site I have found so far for hosiery of any type is We Love Colors. It rocks the party. And their Fashion Press section has tons of ideas, the short socks pulled up like a knee high over another pair of tights is one of my faves.

Oh, yeah- 2 updates. I have not yet purchased colored jeans, nor have I received my pashmina from China. It has been exactly 14 days on that... not that I'm counting!
